We eventually set off from Portishead at midday Friday, later than planned, which will come as no surprise to anyone who knows us. Initially the sail in the sunshine was a joy, but by night-time the sea had become rough and strong headwinds were developing, making for lots of tacking or motor-sailing directly into the wind, not pleasant. So the next morning, feeling extremely sleep deprived and a bit seasick (in Annie’s case) we decided not to try to round Land’s End in worsening conditions but to stop at Padstow. So here we are and lovely it is too in the evening sun. Fish and chips, an early night and a few days here until the wind direction changes, probably Wednesday, then we’ll be back on course.

July 11, 2015 - 8:37 pmPadstow already! Have you thought of only stopping at places beginning with P? That would make it a real challenge! Will airlift more Kwells if needed, and good luck with the next leg. Great to hear from you, Jerry xx

July 13, 2015 - 5:14 pmThis weekend experienced my first ‘hard broach’ whilst sailing back from St Malo at 0100, so hoping that you won’t have one of those. The trick is not to have the spinnaker up in the middle of the night in a fresh breeze.

July 15, 2015 - 7:04 amIt sounds terrifying Steve. There will definitely not be any hard broaching permitted on this boat and no spinnakers up at 1am xx
