It makes for wonderful reading but am really thinking of you with all the bugs and humidity. I have such admiration for you endurance: I’d’ve jumped ship by now! Snow is threatened here, it has got a lot colder suddenly but doubt the snow even though I could yet be proved wrong. Given a choice, I know where I’d rather be. Today is the anniversary of my ‘grand fall’ and, at last, after a lot of nagging, I have an orthotic appointment in a few days so maybe a little less gimpy in due course. If the fish are rising to the surface in the evening, they are probably sipping flies/ insects from the surface as do trout. Try casting an artificial fly towards them. If you don’t have flies, a bare hook with some wooly fluff whipped to the shank will often fool them.
